The penultimate game for the Youth Team saw them undertake their longest trip of the season, and return with a point that was the least there recent efforts have deserved.
Their misfortune in terms of hitting the frame of the goal rather than the back of the net continued however, as the recent average of twice a game was this time achieved by Tom Murphy and Olly Bartrum.
In the sixth minute, a bright start was nearly an excellent one, as a superb reverse pass by Under-16 Bradley Dack found Murphy in space 10 yards out but with goal at his mercy the striker could only hit the base of the post.
The game ebbed and flowed throughout without either keeper being put under great pressure, though Daren Hawkes had to be at his best from a firm downward header following a corner.
Under 16's Jack Parter and Nathan Nayfli combined well on several occasions down the visitors left, with a jinking Parter run nearly opening things up more than once and Nayfli's power and strength intermittently effective.
The less direct approach demanded at half time for the second half nearly paid dividends when Nayfli powered down the right hand side and from six yards out Bartrum's sliding effort struck the near post and away to safety.
Connor Essam nearly claimed the points as the introduction of two further Under 16's George Humber, and Dylan Ford (for his first appearance) meant the visitors ended up with five schoolboys on the pitch.
A creditable performance, also given that five of the players on view had played 90 minutes for the reserves less than 48 hours before.
