Following his release from Blackpool in June 2010, Joe signed for the Gills six months later after a successful trial and made his debut as a second-half substitute in the 4-2 away win at Macclesfield.
Last season Joe scored one goal, a 30-yard cracker at Plymouth, in 39 appearances for the club but picked up an unwanted hat-trick, three red cards.
Born in Dagenham, Joe was with the Academies of both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, winning England Youth honours at Under-16 and 17 level before turning professional at White Hart Lane in 2007.
However he didn’t make his league debut until going on loan to Blackpool in 2007-08 and made the move permanent, signing a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road in July 2008.
