Alex, who has represented Scotland at under-19 and under-21 levels, signed for the Gills in August 2020, following his release by Mansfield Town, and made 45 appearances in all competitions in 2020-21. The forward began his career at Burnley and during his time at Turf Moor went out on loan to Falkirk, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Plymouth and Burton Albion and joined the Brewers on a permanent basis in 2013. He moved from Burton to Oxford in 2017 and signed for Mansfield in 2017.
