Danny joined Gillingham in July 2021, having turned down an offer to remain with Tranmere Rovers, whom he had joined in November 2020. The midfielder spent most of his early career playing in levels 5 and 6 of the pyramid, before moving to Peterborough United in 2017. He returned to non-league in 2018, when he signed for Salford City, and was part of the team that won promotion to the Football League in 2019, going on to play for the club in League Two. Lloyd left Salford prior to the start of 2020-21.
