Stuart joined Gillingham in June 2019, having been released by Cardiff City earlier that year. The midfielder has played for seven other British clubs, beginning his professional career with Southend United in 2008. He then moved to Crystal Palace, for whom he made 51 league appearances between 2010 and 2015, including 14 in the Premier League. During his time with the Eagles he played 4 times for Blackpool during a loan spell. In January 2015 Stuart signed for Cardiff and he had spent time on loan with MK Dons, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle whilst he was with the Welsh outfit.
