TAYLOR: LOFT FITTED THE BILL

12 June 2014

Peter Taylor happy to get his man after Doug Loft signs initial two year contract at Priestfield

Peter Taylor has revealed how pleased he is to have captured the signing of midfielder Doug Loft on a two-year contract.

Doug put pen to paper on Tuesday afternoon after passing a medical at the stadium, and with many clubs expressing their interest in signing him, Peter was delighted to have got his man.

Speaking to the club website he said: “Doug’s a player I have looked at for a long time. He’s a good professional and a very good player who can play in three or four different positions.

“He’s normally playing 40 odd matches a year which is excellent. He’s been a good servant to Port Vale but we are delighted to get him.

“I’m sure he appreciates the work that Micky Adams has done with him at Port Vale but I think he’s looking for something a little bit new.

“He’s a very handy player to have around as well as being a good professional. He’s a winner and lets people know if he’s not happy with certain standards.

“I couldn’t praise him enough.”

Peter revealed he is a player he has regularly kept his eye on, and explained what he will bring to the squad.

He added: “He’s a player I have always kept my eyes on; I knew he was out of contract and I knew the type of players we were looking to bring in and he fitted the bill.

“He has good balance and good experience, he gets enough goals in the position that he plays but he can also play wide left, the left of a three or at full back which he did against us this year.

“I always took an interest from people that have played at Brighton because I have links there and when Micky took him to Port Vale you knew he would be a decent player otherwise Micky wouldn’t have done it.”
