Matty Willock is the only injury doubt ahead of Gills opening day fixture at Doncaster.

DONCASTER ROVERS v GILLINGHAM

The Keepmoat Stadium

Sky Bet League 1

Saturday August 3

Kick off, 3pm

Team News:

Gillingham head to the Keepmoat Stadium for Steve Evans’ first competitive game in charge. The Gills will have doubts over the fitness of Matty Willock, otherwise Evans looks to name a first eleven littered with debutants after a summer of arrivals at Priestfield.

As for the hosts they will also begin the new 2019/20 campaign with a new man in the dugout after the appointment of former West Brom Manager Darren Moore. The Yorkshire side will also field several new signings, but one man that won’t be present is striker John Marquis after he left the club to join Portsmouth this week.

Manager Comment:

Steve Evans - “Doncaster have wonderful players all over the place and yes they will miss John Marquis as he is a talented boy, so a tough start but we have to play each of these teams home and away throughout the course of the season.”

Darren Moore – “It’s a game that we’re all really looking forward to, the opening game of the season is always an exciting time, especially in front of your own fans, we know that Gillingham will provide a tough test because a team under Steve Evans always does.”

Previous Meetings:

In this fixture last season both sides shared the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw. The Gills took a 2-0 lead in the first-half before being pegged back to 2-2. A Max Ehmer strike put the visitors ahead in dramatic fashion, only to see Donny equalise moments later through Paul Taylor.

In the reverse fixture the Gills were condemned to a 3-1 home defeat just four days after Christmas.

These two side have clashed 63 times in history with Gills winning 32, drawing 18 and being on the losing side just 13 times.

Odds:

Doncaster win – 19/20

Draw – 5/2

Gills win – 5/2

Special Bet: Gillingham to win and both teams to score – 13/2
