Kent Senior Cup

Tuesday October 17

Kick-Off, 7.45pm

Team News:

Long-term absentees Oli Hawkins and Tim Dieng will remain unavailable for the short trip to Maidstone, as both continue to progress with their recoveries. Ashley Nadesan's fitness (ankle) continues to be assessed but this game may come too soon for him.

Matty Macarthur, Ronald Sithole, Kai Garrett, Stan Skipper, Josh Bayliss, Josh Chambers, Ike Orji, Alex Giles and Sam Gale could all feature.

Interim Head Coach Keith Millen may also take the opportunity to top up the minutes of some first-team players such as Jonny Williams and George Lapslie.

As for Maidstone they may well also take the opportunity to rest a few players. Ex-Gills defender, Gavin Hoyte, may start.

Manager Comments:

Mark Moss:  “It’s an opportunity to get a few of the players involved, maybe some of the younger players or those who need to get some minutes under their belts.

“We’ll have to see how the squad looks leading into the game. Obviously, we have another big game coming up at the weekend, so we’ll have a discussion on how best to manage the fitness of the team.”

Previous Meeting:

The Gills have not faced local rivals Maidstone United in a competitive League or FA Cup competition since both clubs occupied a place in the 1991/92 fourth division.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in both fixtures during that season.

The teams have met in the Kent Cup on several occasions over the years, including in 2019 when the Stones won 4-2 on penalties at the Gallagher following a 2-2 draw in normal time. This sent Maidstone through to the Final.

Head-to-Head:

Gillingham – 1

Draw – 4

Maidstone United – 4

The Stones hold the winning record against The Gills across all previous meetings in league / cup competitions. Maidstone also emerged triumphant when the two clubs met in the Kent Senior Cup in 1990.
