Team News:

Dom Jefferies and Oli Hawkins edge closer to making a return to the first-team, having both been side-lined for several weeks. The visit of Harrogate this weekend however might come too soon for the pair.

Tom Nichols has not trained this week so may not make the match squad, having picked up an injury against Colchester United. Tim Dieng faces an extended period out as he recovers from a knee injury sustained in our match away at Grimsby Town. George Lapslie could potentially be available for Neil Harris’ side, but will be assessed beforehand.

As for Harrogate Town, Manager Simon Weaver will be without midfielder Dean Cornelius due to injury. Forward Jack Muldoon could return for the Sulphurites, having missed their midweek EFL Trophy win.

Manager Comments:

Neil Harris:  “Harrogate are one of those teams in League Two that can be very competitive.

They’ve got some experience in their team, they have a strong defensive mindset in front of goal, but they also have great ability and are a threat on counterattacks as well.

“We’ve seen in all of our league games so that this is a very competitive competition this year. We need to focus on ourselves, be consistent and play at our very best to gain a result.”

Previous Meetings:

The Gills faced Harrogate at the EnviroVent in our most recent encounter.

In what turned out to be an entertaining goalless draw, there were plenty of chances and attempts on goal from both teams on a busy afternoon for the goalkeepers.

Harrogate won the statistical battle for shots on target, Glen Morris remained alert to the danger on the day however, the Gills keeper doing well to keep the score level by making several good saves.

In what surely would have been a goal of the month contender, David Tutonda went for the spectacular as Harrogate cleared a dangerous ball from their box, the Gills defender striking the rebound from range only for Mark Oxley to tip the ball over the Harrogate crossbar. Points shared on the day.

Head-to-Head:

Gillingham – 0

Draw – 1

Harrogate - 1

The Gills have met Harrogate Town on only two occasions in the past, both coming when the clubs met for the first time in the 22/23 League Two campaign.

Harrogate Town came away from our first ever encounter at Priestfield with a 2-0 victory back in August 2022. The reverse fixture at Wetherby Road in March 2023 ended with a goalless draw.
