Former players in the news

Richard Day looks at a number of former Gills who have been in the news…

Rowan Vine, who ended the 2011-12 campaign on loan here at Gillingham, has followed Simon King up to the Scottish Premier League in signing for St Johnstone.
Former Gills midfielder Steve Lomas, boss of the Saints, managed to hold off late interest from Glasgow Rangers who will of course be starting the season in the Third Division north of the border.
The 29-year-old, who scored one goal in nine games during his spell at Priestfield, has penned a one-year deal.

Welsh international Andrew Crofts has re-joined Championship side Brighton & HA for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old had left the Seagulls for Norwich City two years ago but returns to the South Coast club on a three-year deal.
Cheltenham have taken another former Gillingham loanee Tristan Plummer on trial. The now 22-year-old forward, then at Bristol City, played twice on loan for the Gills in January 2010, making his debut in the home game against Colchester United.
He spent last season in Portugal playing for Portimonense but found the net in the Robins friendly against Evesham on Saturday and impressed enough to earn a further trial period on their pre-season tour of Wales this week.

The former England Under-18 international graduated through City's academy before being loaned out to Luton, Torquay, Hereford and the Gills.

Down in the Blue Square Premier Josh Gowling has been made available for either transfer or a long-term loan by Lincoln City which follows speculation of a rift with the manager at Sincil Bank.
Boss David Holdsworth has since stated that the 28-year-old has been put on the transfer list to reduce the wage bill.
Both Grimsby Town and Macclesfield Town are said to be interested in the central defender.

Former Gillingham skipper Michael Flynn, who was back at Priestfield on trial earlier in the summer but was not offered a contract, has re-joined Newport County on a free transfer after leaving Bradford City.
The 31-year-old started his career with the South Wales club before moving onto Barry Town,  Wigan Athletic, the Gills, Blackpool, Huddersfield Town, Darlington and the Bantams.

Adam Miller has undergone a fourth ankle operation since damaging ankle ligaments back in August 2010. The Cambridge United midfielder, now 30, was injured in a game against Eastbourne Borough just two months after leaving Gillingham. Former Gillingham loanee Dean Brill has re-signed for Luton Town three years after departing Kenilworth Road following their relegation from the Football League. The goalkeeper played eight games while on loan from the Hatters back in 2006-07.

Diminutive forward Dean McDonald, who has played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Rushden & Diamonds, Northwich Victoria, Tooting & Mitcham, Farnborough and last season Carshalton Athletic since leaving Gillingham, has played as a trialist for Macclesfield Town in their recent friendlies.
Although he didn’t score in a 6-1 victory at Northern Premier League New Mills, the former Ipswich forward had a hand in a couple of the goals. In goal for the Silkmen was another ex-Gill, Lance Cronin.
