GILLS FANS NAMED 13TH MAN

16 August 2012

Rainham End given squad number for the Gills centenary campaign

As Martin Allen and his players prepare for kick-off in the club’s landmark centenary campaign, Chairman Paul Scally has paid tribute to the club’s sensational support by awarding this season’s number 13 shirt to The Rainham End.

The Chairman explained his decision, stating, “The Rainham End has been the traditional home, throughout Gillingham’s history, of the club’s most passionate and vocal supporters. We have always enjoyed a tremendous support from our fans, both home and away and their fervent backing is sure to play a key role in helping the team to further success this season.”

To celebrate the announcement Paul Scally presented Rainham End season ticket holders and life-long supporters Richard Cherry and Martin Sharp with a specially printed edition of the club’s 2012/13 Centenary kit at MEMS Priestfield Stadium this afternoon.

The club are also producing a giant Centenary replica shirt which will be given to the Rainham End supporters to display at all home and away fixtures this season. Chairman Paul Scally added, “The giant flag will symbolise how important Gillingham’s supporters are, both to the club and to our team. Any team visiting Priestfield Stadium this season will soon realise that when you take on Gillingham, you’re not just playing eleven men, but an entire Club.
