1951 - Dennis Hillman, Tommy Rigg and Vic Niblett made their debuts against Millwall

1956 - Debutants against Watford at Priestfield were Peter Chiswick, Bert Carberry, Gordon Brasted, Ron Clark and Stewart Pollock

1962 -  John Arnott, George Francis and George Wright played their first games when Chester came to town

1971 - Centre-half Kenny Hill scored a debut goal in the League Cup tie with Reading

1979 - Steve Bruce made his Gills debut at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road

2012 - Deon Burton and Myles Weston against Bradford at home


BIRTHS...

1904 - William George Berry

The outside-left arrived at Priestfield from Charlton Athletic in May 1923 but didn't make his debut until the trip to Bournemouth in February 1924.

He went on to make 87 appearances in total scoring a dozen goals before joining Brentford in May 1926


DEATHS... 

1962 - Peter Chiswick

The East Londoner moved to Gillingham from West Ham United in July 1956 having made 19 league appearances for the Hammers.

He made his debut against Watford on the opening day and played another 13 times in his one season at the club.

After a spell at Margate he became manager-coach t Barking.

Peter died in West Ham on August 18 aged just 32 following a throat infection.
