DEBUTS…

The following players made their Gillingham debut in the above games...

1997- Mike Pollitt & Nicky Southall against Southend

BIRTHS…

1925 - Bill Burtenshaw

Bill appeared for Gillingham 39 times and scored eight goals during his spell. He signed for the club along with his younger brother Charlie and Bill Collins, all three later played for Snowdown CW.

1955 - Glenn Roeder

Roeder joined Gillingham as player-manager in October 1992 after being plucked from non-league Purfleet.

He played six times during his spell in charge, but his management results were not as impressive as the fans may have hoped, winning just 13 of his 51 games in charge.

With him in charge the club slipped to second bottom of the Football League, and only escaped the drop thanks to a win against bottom club Halifax in the penultimate fixture of the season.

He left the club that summer to take over at Watford, and has also managed West Ham, Newcastle and Norwich.

His most recent role in football was as scout at Aston Villa.

1965 - Brendan Place

A tall centre-half, Place signed for the Gills in October 1989, and in three appearances he was able to help guide the Gills to back-to-back away victories against Lincoln and Torquay.

However he then came down with a mystery illness at the end of November, and despite trying to return with the reserves, he was forced to retire in December 1990.

1983- Scott Vernon

Vernon only played 43 minutes for Gillingham while on loan from Colchester in October 2009.

He started the game up front away at the MK Dons, but due to an ankle injury he had to come off, and was later sent back to his parent club.

He is currently playing for Aberdeen in the SPL.
