BIRTHS...

1907- Bud Rossiter

The right-back arrived from Crystal Palace in the summer of 1935 and made 22 appearances in his one season at the club.

In July 1936 he joined Clapton Orient.


1931- Larry Baxter

The versatile performer cost £5000 from Norwich City in October 1955 and made his debut at Walsall.

After seven goals in 68 games he joined Torquay United in September 1957.

Next came a 30-year spell in non-league football taking in a variety of playing and management roles

DEATHS...

1954 - Jim Nicholl

He joined the Gills from Glasgow Perthshire in May 1925 but had to wait until the October trip to Norwich before making his debut.

After scoring once, in 89 games, he left the club in November 1927 for Portsmouth.

Jim died on this day in the South Coast naval port in 1954.


1977 - Alf Vango

The centre-half arrived from Gnome Athletic in July 1923 but didn't make his debut until September 1924 when the Gills travelled to Brentford.

He made just five appearances that season in total but it wasn't until August 1929 that he joined Walthamstow Avenue.
