BIRTHS…

1898 - Enos Bromage

The outside-left arrived from Derby County in August 1927 and made his debut at Charlton Athletic. He scored the first of his six goals in a 7-4 defeat at Walsall.

After 22 appearances he joined WBA in March 1928.

1927 - Jack Hannaway

Jack arrived from Manchester City in June 1957 and made his debut two months later against Brighton & HA at home.

He was made captain of the Gills by boss Archie Clark and he went on to make a total of 135 appearances for the club before returning north, to Southport, in June 1960.

1971 - Scott Houghton

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder joined the Gills on loan in December 1992 but after three games around the Christmas period a hamstring injury saw him return to White Hart Lane early.

Moves followed to five other football league teams before dropping into non-league circles with Wootton Blue Cross, Blackstones, St Neots and Arlesey Town, the latter two seeing him gain managerial experience.

He is now a policeman in the Peterborough area.

1986 - Rene Howe

A prolific scorer at both Bedford Town and Kettering Town, Rene signed for Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee in May 2007.

He went out on loan to Rochdale, Morecambe, Lincoln City, Rushden & Diamonds, Bristol Rovers and of course Gillingham whilst at London Road.

He arrived at Priestfield in January 2010, made his debut against Colchester United and scored twice (against Southend United and Southampton) in 18 appearances.

In July 2011, following his release by the Posh, he signed a two-year deal with Torquay United.
