1988 - Gillingham manager Paul Taylor and his assistant John Gorman were dismissed following a 5-0 thumping at Preston the previous night

1992 - Glenn Roeder is appointed player/coach/manager of the Gills replacing Damien Richardson

2012 - The Gills signed French midfielder Romain Vincelot on loan from Brighton & HA - he scored on his debut at AFC Wimbledon, his only goal in 11 appearances

BIRTHS...

1962 - Phil Kite

The former Bristol Rovers and Southampton keeper initially came to Priestfield on loan in February 1987 making his debut against Mansfield Town at home.

He went on to make 90 appearances for the Gills before Bournemouth paid £60,000 for his services.

After retiring from the game he studied physiotherapy and is currently club physio at Bristol Rovers


1971 - David Jordan

The local lad came through the ranks at Gillingham turning professional in June 1990.

He made his debut as a substitute, one of just two senior appearances, against Stockport County at home in April 1991.

David, a striker, went out on loan to a number of clubs before eventually joining Ashford Town in June 1992 with spells following at Margate, Faversham Town and Sittingbourne.


1977 - Brian McGlinchey

Previously with Manchester City and Port Vale, the left-back joined the Gills in August 1999 and made his debut on the opening day of the season against Bristol Rovers.

The former Northern Ireland Under-21 international, who scored twice in 23 games,  was later a regular at both Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United.
