BIRTHS...

1912 - George Ballsom

After making 49 appearances he joined Cardiff City in the summer of 1938

1962 - Colin Clarke

Previously with Ipswich Town and Peterborough United, the centre-forward joined the Gills on loan in March 1984. He made his debut against Burnley at Priestfield and went on to score one goal in eight games.

Some big money moves came later in his career and he featured for Northern Ireland in the 1986 World Cup finals.

After a knee injury ended his playing days, Colin has coached in and around the United States and is currently head-coach at Carolina RailHawks.

1969 - Guy Butters

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender joined the Gills in a £225,000 deal from Portsmouth in October 1996. He made his debut against Preston at home just days later.

Guy scored 17 goals in 193 games for the club, including the two play-off finals against Manchester City and Wigan Athletic.

After a good spell at Brighton & HA, he later managed Wessex League Premier side Winchester City before recently becoming assistant to Richard Hill at Blue Square South Eastleigh.
