MOTD TEAM OF THE YEAR

Four Gillingham staff selected for honours in the Match of the Day review of the season

Match of the Day magazine has named its best players of the season for the Football League and the Gills have scooped no less than four honours.

Not surprisingly Gillingham’s Championship winning Manager Martin Allen is named League Two Manager of the Year after keeping the club at the top of the table for all but two weeks of the season.

While three of the Gills virtually ever-present back five have been selected in the League Two Team of the Year. Clean sheet king Stuart Nelson takes the keeper’s shirt in the League select XI, championship winning skipper Adam Barrett is chosen at centre-half while free-scoring full-back Matt Fish completes the honours with a selection in the right–back berth.

The League 2 team of the year in full is:

Nelson, Gillingham
Fish, Gillingham
Barrett, Gillingham
Wright, Oxford
Smith, Chesterfield
Hackett, Northampton
Jones, Bradford
Maghoma, Burton
Cureton, Exeter
Pope, Port Vale
Wells, Bradford

The full feature appears in the latest edition of Match of the Day magazine which is on sale now.
