BIRTHS...

1963 - Scott Barrett

The experienced goalkeeper had played for Notts County (as an apprentice), home-town club Ilkeston Town, Wolves, Stoke City, Colchester United and Stockport County (loan) before Damien Richardson signed him in August 1992 following a trial.

His debut came on the first day of the 1992-93 campaign against Northampton Town at home.

Having been number one during his first season, when not suspended, the arrival of Steve Banks limited his opportunities.

After his three seasons with the Gills in which he made 65 appearances he joined Cambridge United in August 1995 and later played for Kingstonian (loan) and Leyton Orient.

He left the O's to become assistant-manager to Mark Stimson at Grays Athletic and the two have now worked together at Stevenage Borough, here at Gillingham of course, Barnet, Kettering Town and currently Thurrock.

1966 - Alen Scotting

Born in Dartford, Alen was a schoolboy with Charlton Athletic prior to playing South East Counties League and reserve football with the Gills.

In February 1984 he signed professional terms here at Priestfield Stadium and he made his debut against Millwall at the Den in the Associate Members Cup

Two months later he played in the home league game with Bristol Rovers and although he kept his place in the following match it proved to be his final appearance.

After leaving Gillingham the left-back remained in Kent and had spells with Bromley, Maidstone United, Erith & Belvedere, Margate and Phoenix Sports.
