Gills Manager confident results will come after Bristol City performance
Martin Allen remained upbeat despite watching his side go out of the Capital One Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Bristol City at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
Goals from Sam Baldock and Jordan Wynter either side of half time booked City’s place in the next round, but Martin said as long as the squad keep believing they will pick up positive results soon.
He said: “I thought the lads did quite well to be honest. We had some good chances in the first half and none of them managed to get in the goal. They scored off their first and only chance in the first half.
“Some fresh legs came on in the second half and I thought we played very well. There were some good passing movements but once again we didn’t manage to get the breaks that would get us over the line.
“The level of commitment and energy of the players was second to none once again against a decent side who were in the Championship last year.
“They have some good players, there is no doubt about that and we play them again in a few weeks in the league so I’m looking forward to that.
“They knocked the ball about nicely and scored with a deflected goal. We have been on the wrong end of a few bits and pieces but we just need to keep going, keep working, keep the faith and keep believing and it will turn our way, no worries.
“I would never say different people are first choice – the lads that played tonight deserved the opportunity. We need everyone in our squad, we had 14 or 15 players fit for tonight so it is a little bit tight.
“They all need to play and they’ve got to play. You need to have faith in all of your players, and I have.”
