FISH: "WE ARE STILL IN GREAT POSITION"

8 February 2013

Full back confident away form can continue at Bradford...

Matt Fish says the squad will go in to the forthcoming games with Bradford and York full of confidence considering how strong their form on the road has been this season.

The Gills have lost just one away game since August, that coming at Torquay back in October, but isn’t overly sure why the home form isn’t quite on par.

Speaking in his midweek press conference he said: “Our away record has been second to none; we have only lost one game so we have confidence going in to both games to pick up six points and hopefully we can do that.

“We’ve got a great team spirit and I don’t think that’s questionable. Anton Robinson has fitted in with the boys - he’s a good player and a good addition to the squad, he talks, he’s experienced and has played in the league above.

“As a team maybe there’s a bit of pressure playing at home but I don’t think we can start worrying about it at the moment, we are still in a great position to get promoted as long as we keep doing what we’re doing.

“Below fourth is quite tight so you can’t get complacent, we just have to try and win as many games as we can and if we can win around half of them I think we’ll be there or there abouts.”

The first of the two games comes at Valley Parade on Saturday when the Gills take on Capital One Cup Finalists Bradford City, but the full back doesn’t believe they will be thinking about that game as they look to force their way back in to play-off contention.

He said: “I don’t think it will, they can still get in the play-offs so they are still playing for something in the league. The cup game is something to look forward to but you can only do that when it comes so they will still put in good performances.

“I don’t think it will change the way they go about things.

“If it was me I would just be focussing on the next game, that’s all you can do. I think they have three games before the cup final so anything can happen between now and then – they’ve got to try and push for promotion so they need to concentrate on that before the final.”
