BIRTHS...

1903 - Jimmy Poxton

The Staveley born outside-left joined the Gills from WBA in March 1928 and made his debut against Southend United at home.

He remained with the club until the end of the following season, scoring nine times in 44 games, before joining Millwall in May 1929.


1962 - Gary Sutton

Born in Folkestone, Gary played for Shepway Schools and Kent as youngster and joined Gillingham as an apprentice in July 1978.

The goalkeeper signed professional terms in February 1980 and made his debut against Colchester United at Layer Road 10 months later.

After 17 appearances in three seasons at the club, he found himself as understudy to the legendary Ron Hillyard, he left the club in the summer of 1983 joining Kent Police.

DEATHS...

1992 - Tommy Kingsnorth

The centre half had played for Lloyds Paper Mills before joining the Gills in September 1946 and making his debut against Yeovil Town at home the following month.

He was a member of the team that twice won the Southern League title and was runners-up once before the club were re-elected into the Football League in the summer of 1950.

Having scored 11 goals in 194 appearances he joined hometown club Sittingbourne in September 1951.

It was in the Swale town that Tommy died on this day in 1992.
