BIRTHS...
1956 - Mickey Barker
The left-back cost a then club record fee of £45,000 when Gillingham manager Gerry Summers brought him from Newcastle United in January 1979 having played in 21 games for the Magpies.
He made his debut when Brentford visited shortly afterwards and went on to make a total of 70 appearances for the club.
Micky later had spells back in his native North East with Ferryhill and Bishop Auckland before returning to the Football League with Hartlepool United where he made 60 league appearances.
In 2008 he opened a golf course near his Bishop Auckland home.

DEATHS...
1979 - John Cartmell
John came to Gillingham from Bournemouth in September 1923 and made his debut at Northampton Town the following month.
However the outside-left made just five appearances before moving to Brentford in the summer of 1924.
John died in Richmond on this day in 1979.
