Martin Allen talks to the press after York draw...
Martin Allen says he doesn’t think it will be too long before the Gills find the form that put them top of the league table for more than four months.
The Gills drew 1-1 with York at the weekend with Cody McDonald grabbing an equaliser following Charlie Lee’s own goal in the first half.
The hosts very nearly grabbed a winner with McDonald again going close, but the manager was encouraged by the response his players gave after the interval.
He said: “I didn’t think it was a very good first half but thought we played much, much better in the second half. I suppose from being 1-0 behind it was good to get a point.
“Everybody wanted three points to go top of the league but I don’t think we played that well and going in to half time it wasn’t easy for our players.
“We are finding it a bit difficult here at the moment, I think the players recognise the backing that our supporters have given.
“They have been encouraging and vocal and perhaps the expectancy got on top of our lads. We will look at that and talk about that but sometimes talk is cheap. You have to go over that white line and show what you can do.
“These are good players, they are a good squad and they showed in the second half they can move the ball about with good tempo and make good chances.
“I don’t think it will be too long before we get the victories under our belt, we have two home games now with Northampton and Wycombe.
“We have spent hours and hours getting this pitch and the training pitch ready. The performance today was below the standards we have set earlier in the season.
“The fans were expecting it, the players were expecting it and we all want it the same as everyone else and my concentration and focus has to be on our players and team performance.
“It’s about time we put something on here for our fans, who pay, to send them home happy.”
