Gills defender Adam Barrett has joined League Two club AFC Wimbledon on loan until early October

Adam Barrett has joined League Two side AFC Wimbledon on loan until October 4.

The centre-back was made available for transfer by boss Peter Taylor last week, and Wimbledon have moved quickly to secure his services on a two month deal.

However Adam will not be eligible to play in any cup competitions.

The Gills skipper for the last two seasons has signed in time to make his debut against Shrewsbury at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday.

Neal Ardley told AFC Wimbledon's website: “We had a devastating blow with Andy Frampton’s injury and we looked at various options, including bringing in a younger, athletic defender.

"But we felt that we still needed someone with similar qualities to Andy and the leadership that he brings. Adam understands the game and is a leader of men.

"He is a great talker too and is also a left footer the same as Andy so he is a great signing for us.”
