TAYLOR: THE BOYS GRAFTED FOR EVERYTHING

6 December 2014

Peter Taylor delivers his immediate reaction as Gills book a place in the JPT Area Finals

Peter Taylor says his side will be looking to book an appearance at Wembley after progressing to the JPT Area Finals.

John Egan’s 79th minute goal against Leyton Orient at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday ensured a 1-0 win which will now see the Gills take on either Coventry or Bristol City for the right to compete at Wembley against the Northern Area winners.

The Manager conceded the weekend’s game wasn’t the best of the season but praised his players for their work rate and togetherness.

He said: “I didn’t think it was a great game to be honest, at times we were decent and at times we were poor but the effort and everything else has never been in question.

“We worked extremely hard as a team to defend at the right times and to attack at the right times but the quality wasn’t there enough, especially in the first half.

“Leyton Orient are a good side, I know the position they are in people may not think that but a lot of the players today played for them last year and they finished in the play-off Final so they are going to have good character and fight hard so we were always going to get tested.

“The boys grafted, worked exceptionally hard and fought for everything.”

Egan was on the score sheet once more from a set piece but Taylor says it’s not something he will get tired of:

“I certainly won’t get bored of it, that’s a cert. It was a good delivery from Michael Doughty, John rose and he scored,” he said.

“We have worked hard with them [set plays] and spent more minutes on them than we did at the start of the season and thankfully we’ve got some good deliverers and people who want to score.”
