PETER TAYLOR ON DEADLINE DAY

31 January 2014

Gills boss Peter Taylor talks us through his Deadline Day targets

Gillingham have had a busy build-up to transfer deadline day with two players arriving in the past 24 hours and manager Peter Taylor revealed that his top priority is to secure the immediate future of on loan Ipswich Town right-back Elliott Hewitt.

Speaking exclusively on Gills Player last night, Peter said, “We are very, very hopeful that we’re going to keep Elliott Hewitt until the end of the season. That’s not been 100% confirmed but as we speak we still have a few hours to get that done.

“I’m hopeful, Elliott’s hopeful and Mick McCarthy’s hopeful that we can get everything agreed to keep him until the end of the season. That would be a major signing for us.”

Hewitt may be the priority but Taylor hinted that he may be interested in bringing at least one more player in before the window closes tonight, adding, “There is still one position that I’m trying to improve in our little squad but at the minute there’s no further news on that.

“So there might still be someone coming in. We haven’t made expensive signings but I still appreciate the Chairman backing us because we’re getting the numbers in that we need.”
