Gills first team management and playing staff visit local school to meet enthusiastic youngsters

The Gills recently visited Elaine Primary School in Strood to join in with their Aspirations Week, and talk with the children about their life at school and their dreams for the future.

The GFC Community Trust were joined by first Team Manager Peter Taylor, coaches John Schofield, Carl Muggleton, James Russell and Darren Hare, as well as Gills players Chris Whelpdale, Matt Fish and George Howard.

The children from years three to six were all given the opportunity in small groups to meet everyone from the club, and listen to their experiences from school, ask any questions they had and also grab a few autographs.

Head of the GFC Community Trust Adam Lawrence commented: “The afternoon was a huge success. It was great for the children of Elaine Primary School to meet our Manager as well as some of the coaching staff and players.

"I am sure that Peter and the team were able to pass of some excellent advice to the pupils and hopefully they will be inspired to continue to work hard in school.”

Gills first team player Chris Whelpdale added: “We really enjoy coming out to meet local kids.  It is important that they understand the importance of working hard, especially in English and Maths, even if they want to be a footballer one day.”

Also in attendance for the afternoon was Gills mascot Tommy T who was delighted to trot around the school and meet some of the younger pupils.

Linda Joplin from the school said: “Gillingham Football Club took time from their busy schedule to visit the children of  Elaine Primary Academy during their aspirations week.

"The questions and answering sessions given by first team players, coaches and the manager were inspirational and realistic.

"They encouraged and reminded the children how important an education is and the need to work hard to achieve and aspire to their dreams.”

The GFC Community Trust would like to thank Elaine Primary School for making everyone from the club so welcome, and also wish them luck for the remainder of their Aspirations Week.
