Team News:

Defender Jason Pearce (leg) could return after playing for the club's development team midweek.

Manager Comments:

Justin Edinburgh – “Until we get 12 or 15 games in I don’t think you can really look at form, I expect a tough encounter as we have had in all four games played so far.

“We want to replicate the performance and atmosphere that we had against Sheffield United, we are full of confidence and looking forward to the game.”

Gary Caldwell – “I went to Port Vale last Saturday to watch them and they’re a good side. They’ve had a good start, they’re playing with confidence and they’re physical.

“I played at their stadium many years ago for Coventry City and it’s a tight ground with quite a big atmosphere so we have to be ready for that and try and control the game.”

Previous Meetings:

The clubs haven’t met for over a decade, the last match taking place in February 2005. A brace from Darius Henderson giving Gills a 2-1 win over the Latics – Nathan Ellington on target for the visitors.

In total the teams have met on 32 occasions – both sides have won 13 of these matches with the other six being a draw.
