Justin Edinburgh bolsters his defensive options ahead of the new season
Gillingham have added a defender to their squad with the capture of Adedeji Oshilaja from Championship side Cardiff City on a loan deal until January 3.The 22-year-old centre back, who has previously played under Justin Edinburgh at Newport County, signed his deal on Friday afternoon and could make his first appearance away to Dover on Saturday.
Oshilaja has made three appearances for the Bluebirds during his time at the club, most recently on August 26 2014 when he played the full 90 minutes in a 3-2 win over Port Vale in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
However most of his league games have been spent on loan having enjoyed spells at Newport, Sheffield Wednesday and AFC Wimbledon.
Last season he featured 23 times for the Dons and scored one goal, that coming in a 2-1 win over York City on March 7 earlier this year.
On clinching the signing Edinburgh said: “Having worked with Adedeji at Newport County I know what he is capable of and was keen to get him on board here at Gillingham if it were possible.
“We thank Cardiff for allowing him to join us and we look forward to working with him.”
Oshilaja added: “I’m really happy to be here, I spoke to the Manager and the staff and everybody has been really welcoming.
“Every player can’t wait for the season to start.”
