WOMEN AND GIRLS UPDATE 26

8 April 2016

Weekly update of what has been happening at the club this week....

TWO GAMES FOR GILLS LADIES THIS WEEK

Gillingham Ladies first game of the week was a long trip to play Lowestoft Town LFC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, April 3. Gills Ladies last game was the reverse fixture of the same tie a week ago, Manager Jack Wheeler made three changes with Katie Hardaker and Paige Baker-Carroll returning to the starting lineup and Megan Maslak made her first start after spending a period out on loan.

Five goals in the first half and one goal early in the second half were enough to secure all three points for Gills Ladies to take back to Kent. The goals were scored by Kallie Balfour, Lauren Davis, Megan Maslak and two by Paige Baker-Carroll.

The second game was again on the road to play Enfield Town LFC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Wednesday, April 6. For this game only two changes were made to the starting line up with Ashleigh Loosemore and Lydia Wills returning.

Gills Ladies had the best of the chances and dominated possession but could not find the break through needed to win the game and it ended 0-0.

Gills Ladies next have a run of three home fixtures and first we welcome MK Dons LFC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, April 10. Good luck girls.

GIRLS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

This week Gillingham FC, Community Trust hosed their annual Girls COE U9s Festival at the Abbey School in Faversham. Teams from Arsenal, Brighton, Chelsea, Essex and Hampshire Centres of Excellence joined our U9s for a fun packed morning of small-sided games. On the day Centre Manager, Georgia Bowie was joined by players from the U17s and U15s to help run and officiate the day and they all did a tremendous job, thank you girls. The U9s put in some fantastic individual performances and worked extremely well as a team and they continue to impress, well done girls.

SOCCER SCHOOLS

This week our Girls Academy players were out and about coaching at the various Community Trust Soccer Schools over Easter and were superb role models throughout, especially at our Girls Only day. U17s GK, Katie Startup also joined the team on the day as well as Gills first team players Bradley Dack, Max Ehmer and Josh Wright who joined the session towards the end for a Q&A and of course pose for some photographs and sign autographs. It was great to see so many girls in attendance and our next Girls Only Soccer School will take place during the Summer holidays.
