YOUNG PLAYERS SHINE

13 April 2016

Last week Gillingham FC, Community Trust hosted their annual Girls COE U9s Festival at the Abbey School in Faversham.

Teams from Arsenal, Brighton, Chelsea, Essex and Hampshire Centres of Excellence joined our U9s for a fun packed morning of small-sided games.

The U9s train once a week at the Centre of Excellence as part of a Development Squad and remain registered with their junior teams.

Earlier in the season the girls attended a festival hosted by Brighton COE and put in some impressive individual and team performances and they continued in the same vein at our festival. The Centre has a full squad at the U9 age group and were able to enter two very strong teams, with both showing a great understanding of the game. The girls were given team and individual challenges throughout the festival in which they were constantly looking to improve or make harder for the next game. It was great to see 2 squads of such young players so confident on the ball and positively trying 1v1’s and having plenty of shots.

Centre Manager, Georgia Bowie said “The festival enabled all the young talented female footballers to show off their ability and skills on a platform that many of them have not experienced before. It was a great success with plenty of quality football for the girls, coaches and parents to witness.”
