WOMEN AND GIRLS UPDATE 19

19 February 2016

Weekly update of what has been happening at the club.

League disappointment for Gills Ladies

Gillingham Ladies were due to return to FA Women’s Premier League action on Sunday, February 14 away to Denham Utd LFC. Unfortunately the match was postponed due to a water logged pitch and the team’s wait for a league fixture continues.

Gills Ladies are on the road for their next match against MK Dons LFC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, February 21. Good luck girls.

Kent FA Ladies Representative Team Friendly

A number of Gills Ladies players were included in the Kent FA Ladies squad that played a friendly against Royal Navy FA on Wednesday, February 17 at Chatham Town FC. Lydia Wills opened the scoring for Kent FA Ladies and even though Kent Ladies hit the wood work three times the game ended honours even (2-2).

The Kent Girls and Ladies League have joined forces with Gills Ladies to offer all affiliated clubs within the Kent Girls and Ladies League a unique opportunity to be Gills Ladies match day mascots.

Girls Centre of Excellence

Our U9s were in action this week as they attended a Centre Festival hosted by Brighton COE and played small-sided games against hosts Brighton, Chelsea and Hampshire. With each Centre having two teams in action the Gills competed strongly and impressed onlookers suffering only one loss on the day.

Georgia Bowie, Centre Manager said “Both of our teams did really well as individuals but more importantly as teams, all the girls were set challenges to concentrate on during the games and they were all achieved.

As coaches we were very impressed by their level of understanding during the games and to see them trying different things that they had worked on in training.”

The U9s will be taking part in another Centre Festival in Easter when we host Brighton, Chelsea, Essex and Hampshire.

The remaining squads are all in action against Arsenal this weekend, the U17s are at home for a League fixture while the U11s, U13s and U15s travel to Arsenal for friendlies, good luck girls.

Next month will see our last FREE Coaches Open Evening of the season. Technical Director Mark Patterson will host the evening and invites coaches to watch him put on a session with our U13s on ‘Pressing and Regain’. Before the session Mark will talk through the points of the session and the outcomes expected and giving coaches the opportunity to ask questions.

Girls Academy

This week the squad were on half-term but they have each continued with their coaching development as they all attended our Soccer Schools, as always the girls were fantastic and are developing in to very good coaches. Next week they are back into college and will be busy preparing for their tour of Barcelona at the end of March.

Soccer Schools

Our Girls Only Soccer School was a success and topped off first team player Aaron Morris popping in to get involved and hand out their certificates at the end of the day. During the Easter holidays we will be again be holding a Girls Only Soccer School and dates and venues will be confirmed shortly.
