Byrne strike earns Goal nomination.

Gills midfielder in the running for Goal award.

Mark Byrne has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month award for December.

The midfielder blasted home a right foot volley on December 16 against Bristol Rovers which beat Adam Smith into the top left hand corner of the net.

The December nominations for the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month Award are:

Shaun Whalley – MK Dons v SHREWSBURY TOWN – 9th December

Shown outside by a defender, Whalley seized the moment to drive past his man and, without a moment’s hesitation, connect with a 30-yard strike into the opposite top corner.

Mark Byrne – GILLINGHAM v Bristol Rovers – 16th December

Training ground corner routines cannot be executed any better than this. Byrne sprinted into the area, judged the flight of the ball and perfectly timed a stunning volley on the run.

Graham Carey – Blackpool v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE – 30th December

Carey combined determination and technique as he chased a flick-on. Running towards the corner flag, he swivelled and struck the sweetest of volleys into the far top corner.
