Barrett was instrumental throughout the club’s 2012/2013 League 2 title winning season, captaining the side to their first league championship since 1964, and somebody who will no doubt receive a warm applause from all four corners of the ground on the day, having also represented the Seasiders for several seasons across two different spells.

Born in Dagenham, Barrett began his career with Leyton Orient before moving to Plymouth Argyle for the 1999/2000 season. After playing over 50 games he then went on to play for Mansfield Town for two seasons prior to spending a similar amount of time at Bristol Rovers.

After leaving the Memorial Ground, Barrett signed for Southend United in 2004 where he would be pivotal in a hugely successful spell for the club, helping taking the team from League 2 to the Championship during a six year stay, and making over 250 appearances before signing for Crystal Palace.

It was on the 16th August 2012 that Barrett joined The Gills, then under the management of Martin Allen, on a one-year deal with the option of a second. He was quickly made captain at Priestfield and led the Gills to win their first league since the mid 60's.

His regular combative performances quickly won the fans over and he was awarded the club's Supporters' Player of the year and Away Supporters' Player of the year awards.

He joined AFC Wimbledon for a brief loan period in 2014 prior to returning to Roots Hall where he would finish his playing career.

In total he made 735 professional appearances and scored 49 goals, making 95 appearances for the Gills and scoring three times; the last of which coming against Shrewsbury in May 2014 at Priestfield.

The anchor at the heart of Gillingham’s team for one of our greatest ever seasons, Barrett deserves his status as a true Gills Legend and we are sure you will join us in giving him a hero’s welcome back to Priestfield.

Adam will be in the Great Hall where, alongside the fans, he will be enjoying a watch, wine and dine pre-match experience. You can join the former Gills skipper for a fee of £40+VAT or, if you have already purchased your match ticket, upgrade for just £25+VAT.
