Gills back on the road as Steve Lovell's men head to Shropshire to take on Shrewsbury.

28 September 2018

Gills have a few injury concerns ahead of the trip to Shrewsbury.

SHREWSBURY TOWN V GILLINGHAM

Montgomery Waters Meadow

Sky Bet League 1

Saturday September 29

Kick-off, 3pm

Team News:

Regan Charles-Cook (ankle), Connor Ogilvie (ankle) and Elliott List (back) are all major doubts for the weekend’s game while Billy Bingham (ankle) is also unavailable due to an ongoing problem.

Darren Oldaker was brought off after 20 minutes during Tuesday’s game at Folkestone but has recovered sufficiently to travel if required.

As for Shrewsbury, forward Lenell John-Lewis could be back in contention after missing last weekend’s game at Scunthorpe due to sickness. Striker Abo Eisa continues his recovery from a knee problem.

Manager Comments:

John Askey – “We know we’ve got to start to create more chances. We’re hitting men instead of lifting our heads up and they should be goals, really.

“That comes down to individuals.”

Steve Lovell – “We will take the game to Shrewsbury, it will be a nice surface and we will continue to play the kind of Football that I want to play, whether it be right or wrong, that’s what I want to do because we’ve had success in the past and we will again in the future."

Previous Meetings:

The clubs have met on 63 occasions; Gillingham have won 19 of those games with Shrewsbury having five more (24). The most memorable match, certainly for Gills fans, was the League Two play-off final at Wembley in 2009 with Simeon Jackson scoring in the last minute to give Mark Stimson’s side an immediate return to League 1.

Last season Gills drew 1-1 at New Meadow with Mark Byrne scoring an excellent equaliser inside the last 10 minutes, with the reverse fixture resulting in a 2-1 defeat at Priestfield in September 2017.

Odds:

Shrewsbury win - 3/4

Draw - 13/5

Gills win - 19/5

Special Bet: Josh Parker to score first in a 2-1 Gillingham win = 75/1.
