The manager has praised his team of troops after they entered the play-off places in Sky Bet League 1.

Steve Evans praised the enormous contribution of Captain Kyle Dempsey in the Gills brilliant run of form.

He further praised several players who the Manager believes have stepped forward to be the Captain's explosive assistants.

Sat in his office late into the night after the victory over Wigan and in front of a large TV screen that showed the Gills in the EFL league 1 play-off zone he said: “Kyle Dempsey has been stunning in our recent performances, he is delivering Captain performances.

“The kid is not overly vocal, he leads by example. His energy levels are staggering and watching his quality on a daily basis is a pleasure.

“For one so young he is incredible, he has a maturity beyond his years.

“What pleases me the most is the amount of lieutenants that have stepped forward in the squad.

“Connor Ogilvie, Ryan Jackson, Jordan Graham, Stuart O’ Keefe, Alex MacDonald and big Vadaine Oliver have all stepped forward. These boys are like a squad going to enemy lines and winning battles, shoulder to shoulder with our Captain.

“I could name many more, possibly all of them but I do like the quiet assassin, Jack Bonham.

“The win over Wigan was a great reward for the lads who are giving me everything, and more. I don’t know if that’s possible but when I see the fight and desire of these boys I think it is.

“All our attention now switches to Blackpool on Monday. Our boys are fresh and full of energy, just looking at the running stats for the last 15 minutes last night demonstrates that clearly.

“We now need to continue with our focus and work hard on the training ground as we prepare to face an outstanding team in Blackpool. The lads love training and our hard work on organisation, team shape and set plays is proof it has its rewards.

“I believe in these guys and the staff and myself will do everything we can to stay in this promotion fight."
