Goals: R Sithole, Chambers, E Smith, Giles

Gills clinched a comfortable win at Beechings Cross last weekend, defeating Cambridge 4-0 at the training ground with four different players on the scoresheet.

Ronald Sithole, Josh Chambers, Ethan Smith and Alex Giles were all on target as Mark Moss’ men sealed another three points to climb the league table.

The Gills youth boss said: “Having watched the game back it was probably a better performance than I initially thought. Cambridge play a diamond, play it well, and cause problems with technical footballers.

“It’s about getting the ball down the sides, where we can hurt them, and that’s where our first two goals came from early on in the game. We were 2-0 up inside ten minutes; we came out of the traps like a train and it was then about managing the rest of the half. We could have extended the lead, but it was about getting through without conceding.

“Once the third went in at the start of the second half we were quite comfortable. Ronald Sithole got the first, Josh Chambers got the second – both were good moves, Joe Gbode did well for the first goal. It was pleasing as both the goals came from the side and we had four players in the box arriving to get on the end of things.

“Kai made a good run following a ball from Will Dempsey, he slid it across and Chambo finished it off.

“Cambridge had a good period of play after about 20 minutes, until half-time, where we struggled tactically to get to grips with their diamond. At half-time we dropped Kai slightly deeper, and once the third went in it became more comfortable. Ethan got the third, Joe again put in a lovely delivery, Ronald came at the back post and he squared it.

“The first three goals were scored no further than six yards out. The fourth one was Alex Giles, who worked a short corner, it was good work from Chambers who slid it back, Alex took a touch and bent it into the far corner.”

Gills: Crump, Lintott, Carter, Giles, Dempsey (Leach), Gale, E Smith, Chambers, Sithole, Gbode (MacArthur), Garrett (Kuhr)
