Grimsby Town v Gillingham

Sky Bet League Two

Blundell Park

Tuesday September 13th

Kick-Off, 7.45pm

Team News:

Haji Mnoga will miss the fixture due to suspension having been sent off in the first half against Swindon at Priestfield, while Glenn Morris is likely to start in goal. He would have been ineligible had the game at Crawley gone ahead.

Dom Jefferies could be involved as he continues to work through his quad injury. Robbie McKenzie, who re-signed for the club on deadline day, could feature after building his fitness in training. Olly Lee could also return.

The game will likely come too soon for Otis Khan, while Aribim Pepple is a doubt after suffering a hamstring injury. There are a couple of other players that could miss out for Grimsby as manager Paul Hurst is happy with the overall fitness of his squad.

Manager Comments:

Neil Harris - “My job is to keep working with the guys, keep showing them, keep putting on drills for them and being patient as well, just being patient. I had spells myself as a striker, I have been in their shoes, they want to score goals, ultimately they want to do their job.”

Paul Hurst - “We’re in a pretty good place; there are a couple of lads that potentially could be missing tomorrow; whether they would’ve been in the squad anyway is open to debate, but at the moment, it is looking really strong.”

Previous Meetings:

Gillingham’s last away win at Grimsby came in September 2001. Chris Hope gave Gills a first-half lead as he headed Andy Hessenthaler’s free-kick into the back of the net. Marlon King doubled the advantage nine minutes into the second half.

He latched onto a poor pass at the back before finding the bottom corner from 20 yards. Bradley Allen pulled a goal back in the 76th minute. He was played through on goal with plenty of space around him before shooting across the goal and into the bottom corner with a low-driven effort.

Grimsby leads the head-to-head with 16 wins to Gillingham’s 11, and there have been nine draws in the fixture.
