Keith Millen says he will be doing everything he can to help Gills clinch three points against Walsall on Saturday.

Interim Head Coach Keith Millen says he is enjoying keeping the Gillingham hotseat warm as the club’s hierarchy continue their meticulous search for a new Manager.

Millen is keen to make a statement as he targets another three points when they face Walsall this weekend, and he will be giving everything to make sure that happens.

“I am enjoying the work I am doing” admitted Millen. “I haven’t got a lot of time to sit back and reflect, it’s a bit full-on but in a good way. I have been here before and it doesn’t stress me out, but of course I want to win.

"I will do everything I can to get the three points on Saturday. The nervousness, the lack of sleep and all of that kicks in but that’s normal for me, its the desire to make sure the players perform, that’s what drives me. I enjoy that challenge and I always have done.

“Whoever comes to take the job permanently will be coming into a good dressing room, with a good group of players, so it is an attractive job for someone. The club is in a good and positive mindset. The club want to be successful and get promoted so whoever comes in will have to deal with that but you would rather have that pressure at the top of the league than fighting relegation.

“Every manager and coach wants his players to play in slightly different ways, we are all different and that is the beauty of football. My philosophy of playing possession-based football is dependant on what the opposition do. If the opposition press you high you have the solutions of going through them, around them or over them. It’s my job to give the players choices and if they make the right decisions on the day it normally goes well. If you make the wrong decisions you get punished.”

The Saddlers will be a difficult test for the Gills, but Millen says if the Gills play to their own strengths there is no reason why they can’t make it six league points out of six under his watch.

“Walsall always give a good game,” he said. “I have been there loads of times with different teams. It’s a good little stadium and they create a good atmosphere, so their home form is not bad. They are hard to beat at home, they will be keen to get back to winning ways so we have to make sure we are ready for the battle, the fight and the tempo. We have to be ready. If we perform well then we will have a good chance.

“When you win a game and see people going home with smiles on their faces, that is the best part of the job. We will have a good following on Saturday and they play a part in us being successful. Hopefully we have a good turnout and we give them something to cheer about.”
