BIRTHS...

1905 - Les Ames

The cricketing legend, who performed brilliantly for both Kent and England, played football for both Clapton Orient and Gillingham early in his career.

The outside-left made five appearances for the Gills, scoring once in a 5-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers, after signing in September 1931.
 
1930 - Harold Kirman

Despite being a professional for six years, Kirman only made 10 league appearances, eight of those being for Gillingham.

1933 - George Simpson

Simpson made just eight appearances for the club, scoring just once against Aldershot. He also played for Dover Athletic towards the end of his career.

1955 - Joe Hinnigan

The experienced defender had played for Wigan Athletic, Sunderland and Preston before joining the Gills in June 1984.

Joe made the first of his 103 appearances for the Gills in a 1-1 opening day draw with Newport County.

After finishing his playing career with Wrexham and Chester City he took up physiotherapy and has held a number of posts - he is currently with Accrington Stanley.

1973 - Derek Stillie

The experienced keeper, who played for Aberdeen, Wigan Athletic, Dunfermline, Dundee United and Scotland Under-21's before signing for Gillingham in the summer of 2007.

He made his debut against Nottingham Forest in a disappointing 4-0 defeat and made 16 appearances in his one season at the club before announcing his retirement to pursue his interests in law.

Earlier this year (May 2012) the Scot made his international debut for the Principality of Sealand against the Chagos Islands.
