SKY BET PROMOTION RACE PREVIEW

30 September 2013

Sky Bet preview the runners and riders in the League 1 promotion chase

Following Saturday’s emphatic 3-0 triumph at Crewe, Martin Allen’s men have jumped to 20/1 in the betting to finish in the top 6, while our odds for promotion have been cut to 40/1. Here’s how the this weekend’s results have changed the markets with the Football League’s title sponsor Sky Bet.

Leyton Orient’s 100 per cent record came to end as 10-man Walsall held The O’s to a 1-1 draw at the Matchroom Stadium.

The league leaders, who started the season 33/1 outsiders, are now third in the outright market pecking order behind Wolverhampton Wanderers and Peterborough United respectively.

Both the aforementioned clubs secured weekend victories to close the gap on Orient this weekend. Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough side pinched a 1-0 victory away at promotion hopefuls Rotherham thanks to a Grant McCann goal.

Meanwhile, Sky Bet’s 11/8 League 1 favourites Wolverhampton Wanderers, secured a 2-0 away victory at Sheffield United with pre-season top goalscorer favourite Leigh Griffiths netting his fifth goal this campaign.

That victory left David Weir’s South Yorkshire side at the foot of the table and now 20/1 to turn their fortunes around and secure promotion.

The fight for a promotion in Sky Bet League 1 looks set to be a hotly contested one with just four points separating fourth and 10th position.

In that mix, Preston North End are one of the many in-form sides, unbeaten in their opening nine league matches, the latter five being consecutive victories. Simon Grayson’s men are now 3/1 for promotion and 11/1 for the title.
