The result of last weekend's half time shoot-out
St Margaret’s Junior School and St William of Perth Primary School battled in the first round of this year’s Half-time Shoot-out during last weekend’s game against Aldershot Town FC.The players had 7 seconds to score from the edge of the D and could chose to dribble and shoot or simply fire one at goal. The keepers were allowed to move off their line as soon as the whistle sounded and put the striker under pressure meaning that they both had to think and act fast.
In the buildup to the shoot-out both teams seemed confident and relaxed whilst watching the Gills take a 3-0 lead in to half-time, with a few students from each school taking time to have some friendly exchanges with the travelling support.
Just before the shoot-out began, both teams settled any last minute nerves by warming up and passing a ball in their teams. St Margaret’s were certainly faster out of the blocks scoring their first three shots, with some excellent efforts, whilst St William of Perth were unlucky to score just one of their first three, due in part to some good goalkeeping.
However with St William of Perth leveling the scores at 3-3 with just one kick to go, all the pressure was on the final St Margaret’s taker to score and secure victory. The first shot was saved well by the goalkeeper, but a rebound shot found the back of the net, sending St Margarets School through to the second round.
As usual we would like to thank both schools for taking part in the competition and good luck to St Margaret’s for the next round which will take place when Gills face Wycombe Wanderers FC on 2nd February 2013.
Next up will be Canterbury Road Primary School vs Tunstall Primary School when Gills take on Burton Albion Football Club on 20th October.
