Open Trials take place as girls look for places in next season's squads
This Monday saw the start of the new Girls Centre of Excellence season with the first round of trials taking place at UK Paper Sports Ground in Sittingbourne.More than 80 girls from all over the South East were in attendance, ranging from U9s to U17s, all looking for a place in this season’s squads.
After a brief introduction from Adam Lawrence, Head of Community and Director of Girls and Women’s football at the club, the girls were split in to their relevant squads for a warm-up followed by SAQ techniques and ball work.
The girls then took part in a series of matches.
Centre Manager, Henry Willard commented: “I was truly delighted with the turn-out and how well the evening ran.
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes at the club to put the structures in place for next season and ensure we have an outstanding Centre of Excellence for our girls to flourish.
“The standard of all the girls that attended the trials was absolutely fantastic, and is a testament to the elite quality of football that our Centre of Excellence is proud to promote.”
Next Wednesday will see the second round of the Open Trials, after which decisions will be made regarding which girls progress, and those who are successful will be invited to attend our Invite Only trial on Saturday 22nd June.
