We now know the full list of opponents for 2013-14
Following the weekend’s League One and League Two Play-Off Final’s, won respectively by Yeovil Town and Bradford City, we now know the full list of our opponents for the 2013-14 campaign. We will have relatively local games against the likes of Brentford, Colchester United, Crawley Town, Leyton Orient and Stevenage while we will also be locking horns with old rivals Swindon Town once again.
There will be several visits to the Midlands and the surrounding area where the opponents will be Coventry City, MK Dons, Notts County, Peterborough United, Shrewsbury Town, Walsall and Wolverhampton Wanderers who were of course a Premier League side as recently as 2012.
The longest amount of time since last meeting with any of next season’s teams is the 16 and a half years or so since playing Peterborough. It was in the 1996-97 campaign that we last played Posh when we actually did the ‘double’ over them winning 1-0 at London Road and then 2-1 at home in the February return.
On the down side travelling supporters will be facing long journeys to Carlisle United, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic and a quick return to Preston North End following last season’s FA Cup tie.
Gillingham manager Martin Allen will be coming up against three of his former clubs, the aforementioned Brentford plus MK Dons and Notts County.
