Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh has revealed that a deal to extend Cody McDonald's contract appears to be getting closer

Justin Edinburgh believes the club are getting closer to agreeing a new deal for striker Cody McDonald.

The 28-year-old has scored 14 times in 35 appearances so far this season, and the new Manager is keen to secure him on a longer contract at the earliest possible opportunity.

Speaking to Gills Player he said: “It’s on-going but I think we are getting closer and speaking to Cody on a couple of occasions now he is desperate to sign and sometimes you find a club that’s right for yourself and both the club and he are the right fit.

“Hopefully we will have some good news by the end of the week.

“You can never get enough of those [goal scorers]. We have some good ones here and we want to keep him.”
