Assistant boss delighted as Gills secure 2-0 victory over Rochdale at Priestfield
Goals in either half from Bradley Dack and Deji Oshilaja extended the Gills’ unbeaten home league run this season to 10 games and kept the side second in Sky Bet League One.
Assistant Manager David Kerslake said: "First half I thought we were the better team. They ended up changing their system, threw caution to wind and dug in.
“We weren’t as good on the ball as we hoped, but we showed plenty of desire to get the result. We said at half time that if we do the basics well we’d win match.
“There was plenty of endeavour. All successful teams don’t just keep rolling teams, you’ve got to dig in, you’ve got to grind out results.”
Kers also praised Dack – who moved onto 10 goals for the season - as well as the involvement of Emmanuel Osadebe and Dominic Samuel in the fine opening goal.
“It was a fantastic goal,” he added. “Paddy takes the ball 30 or 40 yards up the pitch, what a great touch by Dominic and then the run by Dack. It was a first class goal.
“Dacky has got that quality, the amount of grass covers and the shift puts in makes him special player.
“The gaffer thinks he was good last year but has improved this year.”
