Gills boss hoping unbeaten start can be extended this Saturday

Justin Edinburgh wants his side to continue over achieving as the Gills look to maintain their position at the top of Sky Bet League One this weekend.

Gills travel to Colchester on Saturday who had a terrific result midweek, beating Sheffield United 3-2 at Bramall Lane, but the Manager said that hasn’t changed his thought process going into the fixture.

He said: “I knew before the game that we would have a challenge, they are young and enthusiastic with a lot of pace so what the result did is conclude that it will be a difficult game.

“They will be buoyed by that and we will give them the respect that they quite clearly deserve but I always concentrate on ourselves and how we can influence the game.

“When you are up there it makes you a target for people to raise their game and look to defeat the league leaders.”

Justin was asked if he felt the team had exceeded his expectations in the early part of the campaign.

He replied: “Yes, no doubt about that. I couldn’t agree more, we have over achieved and over exceeding of what we expected as a group.

“We want to continue to do that, it has to be our aim. If we keep doing that there will be a lot more smiles around the club.

“Rather than get carried away or look beyond we need to try and continue to strive to maintain the level of performance, not just in matches but also in training.”

Justin revealed that Deji Oshilaja will not feature at the weekend, the defender is expected to be back in training next week.
