Callum Reilly (hamstring) is unavailable but Alex Lacey is 100% fit after recovering from injury.

As for Southend, Michael Kightly and former Gills midfielder Josh Wright both came off the bench in the club’s previous game and could be drafted in, along with forward Theo Robinson. Harry Kyprianou is available again following his return from international duty with Cyprus. Goalkeeper Ted Smith (shoulder) and defender Rob Kiernan (knee) are both unavailable.

Manager Comments:

Chris Powell – “Whatever 11 goes out there, whatever 11 kicks off at three o’clock they’ve got to be right. We’ve got to bounce back and bounce back quickly."

Steve Lovell – “It’s a local derby, it’s a tough game and it will be a good atmosphere. It’s disappointing to be going there on the back of two defeats but we’ve got to pick ourselves up and be positive for Monday.

“We’ve got to get back to that lovely feeling that you get when you win games.”

Previous Meetings:

The clubs last met on August 29, 2017 in the EFL Trophy where Gills secured a 2-1 win over the Seasiders. Josh Parker was on the scoresheet for the hosts just three days after the reverse league fixture took place at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

Tom Eaves netted a second half hat-trick in a 3-3 draw. In total the clubs have met on 112 occasions. Gills have the better of the statistics with 46 wins to 36.
