Eaves receives player of the month nomination

Gills number nine one of four players to receive League 1 nomination.

Tom Eaves has been nominated for the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month Award for October.

The 26-year-old striker scored four goals during the month, including a world-class effort against Portsmouth at Fratton Park. He also netted a brace against Bradford City on October 27.

All nominees are as follows:

Adebayo Akinfenwa (Wycombe Wanderers) – striker
Involved in everything as Wycombe climbed the table. Three goals, including a thunderous volley and a classic header for his 200th career goal, were matched by three assists as he created space for others in his own unique style.

Simon Eastwood (Oxford United) – goalkeeper
His return from a broken finger sustained in August has made all the difference to the Oxford defence. Made superb saves against Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury and was only beaten from the penalty spot in four games.

Tom Eaves (Gillingham) – striker
Three of the four goals from a striker known as much for his aerial power were things of beauty. Yet even a poised finish at Doncaster and a rasping shot against Bradford couldn’t compare with his magical ball juggling and volley at Portsmouth.

Freddie Ladapo (Plymouth Argyle) - striker
Veins of form do not come much richer. Six goals and two assists in six games for the 25-year-old who scored every type of goal, including a lovely individual effort against Burton, to help lift Argyle out of the relegation zone.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL Trader Mikey Mumford.
